"It's something that we've been working on for a while, and I think it's a great opportunity for students, faculty, staff and other groups to be engaged and develop teamwork," Bryan Harris, director of CRS, said. "We think this is very positive for the University community."
The course was built during the fall semester and is staffed by student facilitators that have been trained to assist and help guide groups through their experience on the course.
Prices for participation range from $20-45 and are based on TU-affiliation and non-profit company versus for-profit organization, for three and six hour slots.
"It's open to the Towson University community, but it's available to the surrounding communities as well. Anyone can come use the course," Nathan McKinnis, assistant director of adventure pursuits, said.
McKinnis and Harris both said that while the course is open to the community, a preference will be given to the groups on campus.
"It's a perfect way to develop leaders and build group cohesion, whether it's trying to identify a leader within a group or just getting a group to communicate better," McKinnis said. "We've had sports teams interested. It's a great way to get them off the court or off the field and put them in a more vulnerable position where they might be able to challenge themselves."
Elements of the course include the grapevine, the nitro, the porthole, the spider's web, the balancing log, the line-up log, the team up-and-over wall, the tension traverse and the wild woozy.
