A cluster of senior art students will show off their achievements in visual media starting next week. The pieces will be on display in the Center for the Arts third floor gallery and will feature works of about 50 different students.
The exhibition will feature works mainly from seniors who are taking one of their final senior project courses.
"We are unable to have one every semester, but we have one once a year for those people," Chris Bartlett, gallery director for the art department, said. "They're invited to bring a work that they've done in their capstone course, whether it's a single work or more. "
The gallery will represent every track in the art major, including graphic design, photography, illustration, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and others. Interdisciplinary pieces - installation pieces and conceptual art that doesn't necessarily fit with the other categories - will also be featured.
A lecture by Maryland Institute College of Art faculty member Barry Nemett and an MFA thesis exhibition by Josh Gillen will be combined with the reception. The lecture will take place in CFA Room 2032 and the MFA gallery will be on display in the Holtzman MFA Gallery. Both will open at 7 p.m. to the public.
Bartlett said that he expects a lot of people to attend the opening reception, which takes place on Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the CFA gallery.
"I think students will find this really interesting. We have a very nice opening reception," Bartlett said. "All of these students are about to graduate with the very best of their work. It should be quite a celebration."
