Sheena Marie Day, a 2006 Towson alumna, was shot and pronounced dead at her home on April 13, according to Prince George's County Police.
Police have arrested and charged 25-year-old Gary Theodore McKinley with first-degree murder. McKinley was Day's live-in boyfriend.
According to a press release issued by the police, officers responded to the 2100 block of Alice Avenue at 1:58 p.m. to a report of an unconscious female. Police found the victim in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The release said investigators have determined that the suspect shot the victim as a result of a domestic related incident.
While at Towson, Day worked in the office of human resources as a student office assistant.
"Sheena was one of my top employees [and] a great student. She was always there, willing and able to help anyone," Gail Price, benefits specialist in the office of human resources, said.
Price described Day as very professional and a hard worker.
"I just can't think of enough nice things to say about Sheena," Price said.
Senior Amanda Ector worked with Day in human resources.
"She was a definitely a hard worker. She was so sweet and so nice," she said. "She trained me in the stuff I do now. Because of her I knew what I'm doing."
Day also worked in HR at Six Flags America. She is survived by her young son.
According to her Facebook account, she is also an alumna of George Washington University.
Since her death, friends have posted their condolences on Day's Facebook wall.
"You were one of a kind Sheenie D! I remember meeting you my freshman year at TU in the lunch hall by the towers! And the fun times at Residence Hall. And seeing you so happy on your graduation day! You had a beautiful personality and you will be missed," Renee Myers, a TU alumna, posted.
Other friends proclaimed that Day and her family are in their prayers.
"Sheena you can't imagine how much I am hurting and how much I am missing you right now. I know that you are in a better place, but I really wish that you were here," Jennifer Nicole Smith, a Morgan State University alumna, said.
There will be a memorial service for Day on Thursday, April 17 at 8:15 p.m. at the Speaker's Circle outside of Hawkins Hall.
