On Wednesday night the Chesapeake Rooms in the University Union were filled to the brim with drag queens and kings of all ages, parading around to booming music, some in skimpy, scandalous outfits. The twice-a-year Queer Student Union-sponsored drag show was taking place.

About 500 people attended the event, which was free for general admission. "VIP seating" close to the stage was also available to students for a $5 charge.

"The student response has been amazing. They come out every time we have it," Theresa Macheski, a sophomore psychology major and president of QSU, said. "The VIP seats always sell really quickly, so that's really good."

Attendees were encouraged to tip the performers during the show, and QSU provided a change table for students who forgot to stuff their pockets full of singles. Raffle tickets were also sold. Prizes given out throughout the evening included gift certificates to local restaurants, Towson University apparel and a T-shirt signed by all of the performers.

"It's awesome. I was here last semester and it was cool then. I'm back again this semester and it's still amazing," freshman Abigail Duffield said.

Besides simply tipping the performers, some students also dressed up in drag. Among them was Tai Pongsupapat, who performed under the name "Honey Dip."

Pongsupapat said he was encouraged to perform both by his aunt and a close friend of his, neither of whom were able to attend the event.

"Before I went on I was really nervous," he said. "But I told myself I had to go out there and work it for both of them. That was my goal for tonight, so I just put all that nervousness aside."

In addition to queens, there were also several drag kings who put on a show. Stage names for some of them included "Lance Goode Thrust," "The Back Door Boys" and "J.T."

"J.T." was actually Ashley Dodson, a freshman music performance and psychology major. She performed to Justin Timberlake's hit "SexyBack," flirting with audience members and dancing along - despite the CD skipping during the chorus.
