"I'm in shock because I don't know how they picked me. I didn't know that Towson knew the work I did.
"I learned so much at Towson. Not so much book stuff, I learned how to be a better person. I learned stuff that I needed to know to grow up."
Steve Battista '96
College of Liberal Arts
"I'll tell you, when they first told me I wanted to turn it down because I said I'm not old enough to get an award like that. It's great to come back to Towson. We had so many great teachers and I don't want to sound self-promoting but the Towerlight was so pivotal in terms of my development of my professional career."
Mary Ellen Lashley '81
College of Health Professions
"I feel incredibly honored, I'm just so humbled by it. It's such a privilege to serve these men at the Helping Up Mission and then to receive this recognition is such a great honor.
"Towson provided me with the foundation for my professional development and it equipped me for the work that I'm doing and I'm so indebted for what they gave me."
Eric C. Lent '91
College of Business and Economics
"It's an amazing experience. I feel it's an honor and at the same time quite humbling to be recognized among so many distinguished alumni.
"I loved my time at Towson. I would characterize it as a perfect combination of strong academic rigor and opportunity to gain leadership experience, in and out of the classroom."
David Lucantoni '76
Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics
"It's a very great honor. I loved going here to Towson. My advisor convinced me to go on to graduate school and that really kick-started my career.
"It really got me interested in mathematics and I've been involved in math my whole career. It got me the job at Bell Laboratories. After that I went into independent consulting for 15 years and now I'm working in patent litigation with the technology I learned at Bell Labs.
"I loved the atmosphere. It wasn't as build up as it is now but it just a great place."
Donald Manekin '74
College of Education
"I've been thinking about this evening and I feel honored on behalf of the University, largely because they're the single biggest producer of teachers in to the system.
"They've made this commitment to urban education...and the teachers become the biggest economic tool because they're literally educating the next level of citizens and leaders in Baltimore and Maryland."
