Towson currently hosts about 30,000 e-mail accounts, with roughly 1 million e-mails sent and received to these accounts every day. The Office of Technology Services has made improving the Towson e-mail service an ongoing goal. The action plan has been set into motion.
SGA creates new positions, Team Tigertown wins first round of elections The newly approved Student Government Association constitution created additional elected positions in the organization including a new executive board member, the chief of staff. The constitution also created a judicial branch, several new director positions and added senators to the legislative body.
Time, place and manner policy Significant alterations to Towson's free speech policy prompted student unrest when administrators unveiled a set of proposed changes in February. The first draft of proposed changes included more rules regarding how, where and when students could hold demonstrations and protests and the way literature is distributed.
For months, members of the University Senate have heavily debated the process of distributing merit and cost of living funds to faculty while combating salary compression. At the final meeting of the semester on May 6, the legislative body made up of faculty members and student representatives voted decisively to accept a report by the Merit and Compensation Taskforce that would distribute the funds on a University-wide basis, rather than among faculty members of a single college or department.
Less than an hour after the polls closed for the second round of Student Government Association elections, Ryan Assadi was announced as the chief of staff position for the 2008-2009. Assadi, who had lost in his bid for attorney general during the first round of elections, defeated Team Tigertown-endorsed candidate Gboyinde Onijala by a margin of 315-259.
All that will stand between Towson students and the real world is a ceremony and a stage. The 143rd Commencement Exercises take place May 21-23. Two ceremonies will be held each day to accommodate the different colleges within the University. About 2,019 undergraduate and 560 graduate students will receive a diploma.
This summer Towson will launch the Center for Adults with Autism Spectrum and Disorder. The center will officially open with its kick-off event, Competent Adulthood for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, on June 9. "The launch is going to be educational," Lisa Crabtree, clinical assistant professor for the department of occupational therapy and occupational science, said.
Towson's chapter of the Society of Human Resources Management made numerous strides since winning a merit award in the early 1990s. After winning this award the chapter had little to no visibility on campus. About 18 years later, SHRM has received another merit award.
