In an attempt to become more visible to Towson students, the Student Government Association held its first meeting
With November rapidly approaching, politicians everywhere are reaching out to the voters. Amidst political conventions and Puff Daddy viral tirades, one locally elected official took time away from the nation's capital to visit Towson Wednesday. John Sarbanes, D-Md.
Towson has been awarded $300,000 over the next three years to help better business development in Baltimore and Western Maryland.
The University received the United States Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration grant. This is the second consecutive competitive cycle in which Towson was designated an EDA University Center.
From a press release, the grant, "enables [Towson] to enhance economic and business development in the city of Baltimore and in western Maryland by providing their local government agencies and business with research, business consulting, economic strategies and technical assistance."
Green initiatives have spread to the parking garages. Eco-friendly faculty, students and staff have been rewarded by parking and transportation services. Hybrid vehicle owners, after applying, can receive a parking permit for half off the regular price. As of now, 40 people have submitted applications and have been approved, while there are six applications pending.
As Towson's student population has grown, the University has successfully upheld high academic standards in comparison to its peer performance group, ranking near the top in the majority of categories in this year's assessment. The peer performance group is made up of 11 universities including Towson.
Finishing installment this past summer and finally in place for the current semester, Towson University has established its own Internet network service for residents. The Towson University Residential Network or "ResNet," is currently a wired network for computers on campus to access the internet.
Red Cross Corps hosts first blood drive of year in Univ. Union The Towson University American Red Cross Corps hosted one of their annual blood drives Wednesday in the University Union Potomac Lounge from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Over 60 donors, including students, faculty, staff and members of the community, participated in the event.
