While the Tigers weren’t exactly a stand-out squad at the CAA Championships, the result was one of the more memorable ones in recent history.

Towson’s fifth-place finish at the conference final was its best result in the annual meet in three years.

“As a team we ran just so well yesterday,” head coach Roger Erricker said. “We’ve rebounded, and yesterday we did very well, only 13 points out of third place. Liya [Kasimova] did not have her best meet and Lindsay [Warfield] didn’t either, but if they can get together with the other five runners, we can get back on top.”

Brandi Gervais had Towson’s best result. Her time of 22:25 placed her 23rd in the 106-runner field. Behind her was Kaylin Gilmartin-Donohue, who came in 27th place.

Towson finished with 139 points, just 12 points behind Delaware. On Sept. 19, the Hens watched Towson win the Blue Hen Invitational. The Blue Hens avenged that meet by winning the Delaware Invitational Oct. 17, where the Tigers finished third. Between those two meets, the Tigers finished 33rd out of 40 teams at the Paul Short Invitational.

“We started out great, but I was very disappointed in the Paul Short and the Delaware Invitational but now we are starting to [hit our stride] and we can start running uphill,” Erricker said.
