Rob Ambrose's long awaited Towson coaching debut did not go as hoped Saturday afternoon. The Tigers fell to the toughest opponent in the school's history, Northwestern, by a 47-14 score Saturday afternoon in Evanston, Ill.
Northwestern's dynamic rushing attack led the charge as three Wildcats combined for five rushing touchdowns. True freshman Arby Fields and Scott Concannon each had two scores on the ground. Northwestern senior quarterback Mike Kafka was also effective, completing 15-20 passes for 192 yards in the victory for the budding Big Ten power.
The Tigers quarterback situation, while not fully settled heading into the contest, appeared to show progress as true freshman Peter Athens played for much of the game and was impressive at times, finishing 15-25 for 140 yards and a touchdown. However, he did throw two interceptions, which is perhaps indicative of his inexperience.
