Super 'Nova puts beatdown on Tigers

'2012' doesn't sugarcoat disaster

‘Goats’ never makes it over the mountain

In theory, “The Men Who Stare at Goats” should be hands-down the funniest movie you will see between now and the start of next summer’s comedy season; and it’s made all the more frustrating by the fact that it’s not.

Football vs Richmond by Casey Prather/The Towerlight

Spiders creep up in third

Early in the third quarter, Towson freshman quarterback Tommy Chroniger’s 12-yard touchdown run gave Towson a 14-13 lead. There was hope at Johnny Unitas Stadium and a buzz in the air that Towson could do the unthinkable and knock off a team that hadn’t lost in 17 games coming into Saturday.

'The Boys' are sad

Films that are littered with tear-evoking moments as well as dripping with sadness usually give one of two impressions – when done poorly, it seems like the characters were assembled specifically for the camera; when done skillfully, it appears everything on screen was already going on, and a film crew just happened to show up at the right time to shoot.

Big name actors take ‘Retreat’ from comedy

As shallow of an observation it is to make, “Couples Retreat” could have benefited from a few more “f” words, sight gags and a nice, bold-faced “R” rating to top everything off. No, need to be so family friendly.

Football vs. Morgan State by Matthew Sprague/The Towerlight

More gains don't faze Morgan State

Three turnovers in the fourth quarter derailed any comeback Towson was trying to make against city rival Morgan State during a 12-9 loss in rainy conditions at Hughes Stadium Saturday evening. It was the Bears’ first victory over Towson since 2003.

Not sure what the genre 'Happens' to be

Fuzzy drama-romance line brings Eckhart's new film down

The biggest question that is begged by “Love Happens,” the new romantic comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart, is: why do we want to see romantic movies in the first place? Is it because we want to have our ultra-stylized visions of romance and social life confirmed? Or is it because we want to live vicariously through obvious caricatures and cookie-cutter personalities? In either case, the necessary conditions for enjoying these two niches rely on the assumption that the film in question be “funny” or “amusing.

Visual masterpiece, plot wasteland

“9” is for sure not your father’s computer-animated movie. Granted, your father probably never saw a computer-animated movie until he took you to see “Toy Story” back in 1995, but the point remains the same.

Towson’s campus did not have a quiet summer as the continued construction of the College of Liberal Arts Complex brought noises from machines and workers.

In addition to the ongoing construction of phase two, the summer was reserved for faculty to move into the completed phase one portion of the CLA Complex.

As of August 19, finishing touches were being added to phase one. This included furnishing offices and installing computers, phones and other equipment.

Loyola College left shaken after Parente murder/suicide

After four days of investigation there are still loose ends to be tied.

The motive is unclear, though there is certainty that the Parente family tragedy has left students and community members shaken.

Baltimore County Police confirmed Wednesday morning that William Parente, 59, murdered his wife and daughters, one a Loyola College sophomore and the other an 11-year-old, before taking his own life at the Sheraton Baltimore-North hotel, less than a mile away from Towson University on Dulaney Valley Road.

In this corner: Philmore could be just what TU needs

The first time I met him, Isaiah Philmore was wearing a gray sweat suit. In essence, I found that’s what his personality was like in speaking with him later. Loose and cool, he’s not afraid of the challenge that awaits him as he enrolls later this year as the biggest recruit Towson men’s basketball coach Pat Kennedy has ever brought to the school in his tenure.
