Friday night was rainy and cold, but that did not stop students from trudging up to the Towson Center to go to the pep rally and get “wild with pride” before the Homecoming football game.
The pep rally included an event known as Yell Like Hell, during which Greek sororities were paired with fraternities and competed in order to be declared as the champions of the night.
Entertainment included a routine from the both the poms and step team, performances by the marching band and dances by the Student Government Association to Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” and the University Residence Government to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.”
The main event of the night, however, was watching the dance moves and songs the Greeks had put together for the competition and to see who the overall winner was. Phi Sigma Sigma and Zeta Beta Tau kicked off the night with a performance that got the crowd moving with its upbeat music.
Antoinette Gandiello, a freshman from Phi Sigma Sigma commented that her sorority competed in order to get involved and have a fun experience.
“Our special events chair coordinated our whole routine, and we practiced three or four times a week,” she said.
Gandiello feels that her sorority did a great job in the competition and they had fun doing it. Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Alpha Pi sang and danced to “Survivor.” Zeta Tau Alpha and Tau Kappa Epsilon followed with dances to several songs including “What a Night” by Franki Valli and “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. Phi Mu and Delta Sigma came next dancing old- school songs such as “Hey Baby” and “I Want You to Want Me.”
Alpha Epsilon Pi and Alpha Gamma Delta tried to make their performance correspond with the Homecoming theme “Wild With Pride” by singing and dancing to songs such as “Welcome to the Jungle.”
Alpha Xi Delta and Sigma Pi delivered a performance they called “Greeks Gone Wild.” They were the last performance of the night. Alpha Xi Delta and Sigma Pi placed third overall in the competition. Kappa Delta and Pi Lambda Phi came in second place.
Jenna Socolow, a freshman from Kappa Delta, was satisfied with her sorority’s performance.
“It was a lot of work learning the dance but it was so much fun,” she said. “We had a strong performance and we were really loud.”
The winners of Yell Like Hell were Zeta Tau Alpha and Tau Kappa Epsilon.
